I have woken up this morning with so much hope and it’s a great feeling! It’s like the stagnant energy has been removed, it’s such a nice feeling to actually WANT to get up and do stuff rather than feeling like a magnet to my bed. In my heart I have so many daily desires to want to achieve so much and specific goals, like wake up early, exercise, dress nicely, pamper myself, eat well, meal prep, create art and write more but I just haven’t been able to find the energy to do any of this stuff and I end up irritating myself.
Yes I’ve been to the gym once or twice a week but I haven’t been pushing myself there. Yes I’ve been eating healthy homemade meals at the start of the week but then give in to junk food and other temptations by midweek. Yes I’ve bought new clothes but I still prefer to wear my old ones because I feel comfortable and safe in them. Yes I set my alarm for 6am but I press the snooze button about a million times before I actually wake up. So I have many good intentions and I guess that’s a start and a push in the right direction, it’s part of the battle of wanting to achieve something in life.
There have been times in my life where I have felt so lost and like I have lost every creative bone and desire in my body so, having these dreams and desires has been the first step for me to get out of this tired and negative phase of my life.
When I’ve felt like this in the past I would go in to each task all guns blazing and then burn out so quick and give up, now I’ll take baby steps so I don’t get bored or lose energy and focus. I’ve really not enjoyed the tired and lazy feeling but I guess my body and mind needed a rest and I accept that.
If you can resonate with how I’ve been feeling over the last few months, believe me when I say there is hope and light at the end of the tunnel. Below I’ve listed some things I do to remove any bad or stale energy within myself and my living space.
- POSITIVE SELF TALK: Firstly be gentle and kind to yourself. Putting yourself down with negative self talk and hating on yourself for not achieving enough is only going to set you back.
- GET WRITING: Get yourself a notebook, if you’re a stationary geek like me, buy yourself something pretty that you will enjoy writing in.
- SHOW GRATITUDE: Have a daily practice of writing down things you are grateful for. You can do this when you first wake up, at the end of your evening before bed or as and when you feel grateful. I write down anything that makes me feel thankful, like if someone smiles at me or if I’ve managed to not check social media for a certain amount of time or if I have extra money to treat myself to something I’ve wanted to buy for a while. It’s your list so you can write down anything you are thankful for!
- GOAL SETTING: In that same notebook, maybe at the back, write down your goals in life. Now these can be as big or as small as you like and as realistic and unrealistic as you like. In my humble opinion I think there’s a higher power out there listening to our desires and even if that sounds crazy and there isn’t, it doesn’t hurt to dream and fantasise, so why not just write it down incase someone has got your back. It’s like when most kids are younger and flick through the Argos catalogue a million times and circle every item they want, they eventually get something off that list – that’s called manifesting. Knowing what you want, feeling excited about it and telling the Universe what you want. So be childlike, dream big no matter how unrealistic your desires may be but remember the key is that you have to feel like you want and deserve it – kind of like when you get that butterflies feeling in your belly when something excites you.
- MOVE: Exercise and movement of some kind has been really important to me as my body has felt tight and stiff over the last couple of months and my weight has crept up but there’s no point in being negative about it. So if a brisk walk around your area is all you can manage at first then just do that. If 10 minutes in the gym is enough to get the sweat dripping then thats’s cool too. Even if you just jump around or dance in your living room that’s fine, you just want to get the blood pumping around the body and sweat it out a bit. You’ll feel really good for it both mentally and physically.
- MEDITATE: Now I know just the word can be off putting and scary because that’s exactly how I felt when I first heard it but meditation is really something to consider to work with the anxiety and lack of desire. I’ve really struggled with meditating over the years, especially just sitting in silence but through practising and trying different methods I’ve realised that meditation comes in all forms. For some people washing the dishes is meditative, baking, cleaning the house, washing the car – just everyday tasks can be used as meditation methods. Just remember to keep your thoughts positive whilst you are carrying out these tasks and meditating because you want to feel good, calm and relaxed not even more stressed out.
- DECLUTTER: Clean your living space, especially your bedroom and office and areas you spend most of your time. Donate things and clothes that no longer serve a purpose in your life and let them go to a better home where someone who needs those things can enjoy them. Get rid of the old clothes that no longer fit and see new ones that flatter who you are now come in to your life. It’s all about living in the present and leaving the past behind.
- AMBIENCE: Light candle and incense to remove negative energies. Open windows in your house to let in fresh air and also let out any stale energy.
- EAT WELL: Pay attention to what you are eating and fuel yourself with foods that will nourish your body inside and out and give you more energy rather than foods that are really tasty at the time but make you feel sluggish after eating them.
- SELF CARE: Have a pamper session whenever you can. You don’t have to spend loads of money on massages (although if you can afford it you totally should) but you can do a weekly face mask, treat yourself to a Lush bath bomb and have a nice relaxing bath, paint your nails or do anything that brings you joy and makes you feel relaxed.
- DON’T JUDGE OTHERS: This is one of the most important ones. Stop caring about what other people are doing, remember when people post on social media it’s generally the best parts of their lives, which is actually a good thing because you don’t want to log in to your favourite social media platform and be bogged down by other peoples negativity and problems. Stop focusing on a negative friend or family member because whatever you focus on grows “where attention goes, energy flows” so, if there have been arguments or bad vibes between you and other people just forget about it and don’t feed that situation by spending more of your precious time and energy on it because it’s draining. We are all on our own journey trying to figure life out, nobody is perfect, we all make mistakes and there’s no point in dwelling on negative situations.
These are just a few things that have slowly helped me get out of a rut in my mind and body, there’s still a long way to go but these are long term lifestyle changes not quick fixes. I hope these tips help you in a positive way to make changes in your life.
